I've enjoyed making some line/shape designs in recent months . . . here are some -- These are made with ink and color pencil.

Here is an artwork that will be in Angst Gallery, Vancouver's December show. To celebrate their eighth anniversary Angst is having a special exhibit in December to showcase all the artists who have shown there over the years. I've only shown at Angst since last year, but am glad to be part of the display. This is an ink and color pencil picture. The version above is a print;; the original artworkI framed for the show looks the same, but without the outer margins (it goes right to the edges of the mat without having white space around it).
First Friday in December is the show opening, and it will be there all month. It was a busy summer . . .studying digital photo and also web video production. Now fall is here, and it is a new term, this time with 20th Century Art History -- and a class in Adobe Illustrator. I can tell already that the skills I'm beginning to learn in Illustrator will be very helpful for doing artwork using the computer. Here is my first project-- it is a house built (from a reference photo) using shapes and lines: I tried this variation, too -- made from a special setting in Photoshop Elements:
These vicunas are staying cool . . .
This is my first picture made with Photoshop Elements . . . It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the full Photoshop, but is very functional for doing many types of projects. "Vicuna Matata!" means no worries . . . right? In the month of May I have artwork in two different art shows! One is at Boomerang, in downtown Vancouver. There are two other artists in this show, that opened on May 6. Erika Bartlett has a collection of digital images placed on acrylic plastic-- they are very nice abstract artworks. And Hilarie Couture, a portrait painter, has a series of portraits called "Founding Mothers, Portraits of Progress"-- these are all paintings of Vancouver women-- some historic from long ago, and some of present day women who are leaders in the community. These portraits are exceptional; they are full of life and vitality, as well as using some creative painting techniques. My own artworks are in Boomerang's children's area, near the back of the store. There are some framed prints, matted prints, and also an assortment of cards. This show will be up for most of May. Here is a picture of the postcard: The other show is at Clark College, in the Archer Gallery; it is a show of student work; the "Art Student Annual." There is a variety of art forms represented-- sculpture, ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, and filmmaking. There is an awesome metal sculpture dragon! And many other interesting works. The piece I have in this show is "Music Whirled" (see picture below). It was made with mixed media -- ink, pencil, paint, color pencil, and digital art. The Archer Gallery show continues through June 10. Here is my collection of Christmas ornament ideas . . . put together using Photoshop. I'd like to try making them using felt :)
For the final project in Photoshop, I made two art prints; they used a lot of different Photoshop steps and techniques. Here is one, called "Whoosh!" And this one is "Watery World" Making the marble for the counter/table was a new challenge; I was excited to see how it turned out.
Have just started on an art journey . . . it will last 5 months, and there will be a new project each month. It is with a group called "Make Art That Sells," and it looks like a great way to learn more and get some more portfolio development happening.
This is a compilation of some sketches I made this week, on the theme of 20's hairstyles -- |
